Join our Rochester maintenance team and help support safe, reliable transportation for the Dover, Somersworth, and Rollinsford school districts.
Pay: $32.00 to $34.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications, per the union contract
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Status: Full-time, year-round position
Pay Structure: Hourly, not flat rate

About the Position
As a Gas and Diesel Technician with First Student, you will maintain and repair a diverse fleet of school buses and light-duty vehicles supporting the Dover, Somersworth, and Rollinsford school districts.
The fleet includes:
• Thomas Built school buses
• GM vehicles
• Ford vehicles
• Dodge vehicles
• Chrysler Pacifica vans
Your work will directly support the safety, reliability, and daily readiness of the vehicles serving these communities.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and safe for our passengers
• Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles
• Perform all phases of vehicle maintenance and repair
• Complete brake repairs and inspections, engine tune-ups, suspension repairs, drivetrain work, transmission and clutch repairs, and other assigned services
• Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and vehicle-performance concerns
• Maintain and repair school buses and light-duty support vehicles
• Complete work orders and maintenance records accurately
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed
• Follow company safety procedures and applicable federal, state, and local requirements
• Work collaboratively with maintenance and operations teams to support fleet readiness
Qualifications
• At least three years of gasoline, diesel, or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of technical school education and relevant hands-on experience
• Experience diagnosing and repairing both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles preferred
• Experience working with buses, vans, and light-duty vehicles preferred
• Strong vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver's license required
• CDL Class B or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment; company-paid training is provided
• Mechanic's tool set sufficient to complete assigned duties
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program
• Strong computer skills and the ability to complete electronic work orders
• Ability to work Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
