At First Student, our Dispatchers are a constant reflection of our company's commitment to safety and customer service. The Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching all buses, ensuring on-time performance of routes, and supporting drivers and monitors on the front line.
This location proudly provides student transportation services for the William Floyd School District.
Schedule
Monday - Friday (Split Shift)
5:30 AM - 9:30 AM
1:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Pay
$28.37 per hour per union contract

Major Responsibilities
Oversees routing and scheduling of buses; dispatch buses and provide timely information to drivers on route
Counsel and coach drivers and monitors on front-line disciplinary and service issues
Manage driver concerns and scheduling issues; escalate to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager when necessary
Handle heavy phone and radio traffic throughout the day
Serve as the primary communication liaison with the William Floyd School District
May assist with charter reservations, billing, driver payroll, and administrative duties
Provide solutions to routing, drop-off, and pick-up challenges
Support day-to-day operational needs and assist drivers while buses are in service
Ensure compliance with company policies, operating contracts, and applicable state and local regulations
Complete special projects and operational tasks as assigned
Minimum Education or Certifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent required
Appropriate vehicle license preferred
Minimum Experience or Skills Required
3-5 years of relevant experience preferred
Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to work under time constraints and meet operational deadlines
Previous experience in terminal operations, dispatch, or driver roles preferred
Computer literate and comfortable using scheduling and office systems
Must have a CDL B with passenger endorsement, or be able to obtain one within 6 months of hire - We will train!
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to move about the office and yard environment
Utilize standard office equipment and access filing systems
Communicate effectively in person and by telephone
Work environment includes office and school bus yard operations
Occasional on-the-road support may be required
