Shop Location: Woolwich, ME

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 5:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Pay: $29.00 - $33.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications - not flat rate)

About the Diesel Technician Position

As a Diesel Technician with First Student, you'll help maintain and repair our fleet of school buses to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and ready to transport students every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), annual inspections, and safety inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, brakes, suspensions, steering systems, drive trains, transmissions, clutches, electrical systems, and other vehicle components.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet company, state, and federal safety standards.
  • Complete work orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with mobile road calls and emergency repairs as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow technicians and location leadership to maximize fleet availability.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of technical school education and hands-on experience.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • CDL Class B, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire (company-paid training provided).
  • Must possess a mechanic's tool set to perform assigned duties.
  • Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and pay incentives provided).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
