This position will perform routine and some non-routine maintenance and repair work on vehicles (buses, vans etc.) which adheres to FirstGroup standards. This may include but is not limited to tire maintenance, fulfilling service calls for repair, conducting visual inspections of vehicles and related work as assigned. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles more advanced issues and problems and may refer more complex issues to higher-level staff. All work is performed with a commitment to safety. Job DescriptionMajor Responsibilities
- Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with moderate supervision on basic and advanced maintenance such as replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, check fluid levels, change fluids and filters and lubricate components.
- Perform mechanical repairs under moderate supervision including the repair of brakes and brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches and other repairs.
- Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers
- Assist Tech III with preventative maintenance (PM\'s), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usage
- Remove and replace engine, transmission and differential assemblies with Maintenance Technician III supervision.
- Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under moderate supervision.
- Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken
- Evaluates completed work prior to release and seeks approval where required
- Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary
- Adhere to FirstGroup standards, policies and procedures
- Moves vehicles safely between job and work area

Minimum Education or Certifications Required

Completes special projects as assigned. Required to perform hands-on work activities.

Minimum Education or Certifications Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Technical training preferred
Possess CDL Operator\'s license with required endorsements

Minimum Experience or Skills Required

3+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience
May require lifting of 20 to 50 lbs
Good written and oral communication skills
Computer skills
Industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Maintenance Shop
Must be able to work in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic\'s dolly beneath motor vehicle equipment; subjected to dust, dirt, and grease conditions.

As a Lead Diesel Mechanic at First Student, you\'ll schedule and perform school bus fleet maintenance on International, Freightliner, & GMC to diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems, and maintain service records. Other job duties will include:

Supervise technicians in the shop.
Generate work orders and track progress through completion.
Maintain advanced knowledge of all vehicle components to effectively diagnose and perform maintenance and repairs.
Monitor shop operational performance and efficiency and take action to improve as needed.

Qualifications:

Valid driver\'s license required; Willingness to obtain CDL while employed - We train!
At least 5 years of automotive or diesel maintenance & repair experience or technical school education.
Previous experience in a lead technician, supervisor, or other management role is preferred.
Possess a mechanic\'s tool set.
Willingness to participate in ASE certification program. Training, testing, and bonuses provided!

$32.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications (NOT flat rate)
An additional $0.25 per hour for each ASE certification you possess or obtain

Supervise technicians in the shop.
Generate work orders and track progress through completion.
Maintain advanced knowledge of all vehicle components to effectively diagnose and perform maintenance and repairs.
Monitor shop operational performance and efficiency and take action to improve as needed.

Qualifications:

Valid driver\'s license required; Willingness to obtain CDL while employed - We train!
At least 5 years of automotive or diesel maintenance & repair experience or technical school education.
Previous experience in a lead technician, supervisor, or other management role is preferred.
Possess a mechanic\'s tool set.
Willingness to participate in ASE certification program. Training, testing, and bonuses provided!
Subject to DOT drug as a safety-sensitive employee. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
