We are currently hiring a Truck & Transport Red Seal Mechanic to join our fleet shop. In this role, you'll perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a modern fleet, while supporting apprentices and contributing to a strong safety-first culture.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose, repair, and maintain all areas of the fleet, including:
Brakes, suspensions, steering, and driveline
Engine performance and tune-ups
Transmissions and clutches
Electrical and auxiliary systems
Perform and lead Preventative Maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual certifications
Remove, repair, and reinstall major mechanical components with minimal supervision
Complete work orders accurately, including parts, labor, and documentation
Identify and report unsafe conditions, defects, or required repairs
Conduct road calls and provide on-site emergency service as needed
Ensure all work complies with company policies, safety standards, and provincial regulations
Safely move vehicles within the yard and shop
Support and mentor apprentice mechanics
Participate in ASE certification programs (training and bonuses provided)

Qualifications

Truck & Transport Red Seal Certificate (or equivalent provincial license)
Valid Class 5 driver's license (higher classes considered an asset)
Adequate personal tool set for heavy vehicle maintenance
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Comfortable using electronic repair manuals, diagnostic software, and work-order systems
Willingness to work assigned shifts and occasional on-call rotation

About the Role

Major Responsibilities

Oversee repair diagnostics on more complex matters and provide coaching, where necessary; may be required to road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs. Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on vehicles and equipment, on site and on the road, including: engine chassis repair and maintenance; knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems to maintain and repair vehicles in a timely and safe manner; knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to effectively diagnose and repair complex heating and cooling systems in vehicles in a timely and safe manner.
Supervise technicians in maintenance shop, including responsibilities as conducting daily shop huddles; fleet walks; coaching/counseling/training all Technician levels on performance/corrective action, when necessary; make hiring/termination decisions in concert with Location Management and/or Human Resources; conduct employee training and performance evaluations; evaluate and make recommendations for merit increase, promotion and job changes, as appropriate.
Oversee maintenance shop inventory control system to ensure necessary equipment and parts levels are maintained and purchases are within budget. Review and approve expenses that are within scope of approval level; refer larger expenses or major repairs to manager as appropriate.
Schedules and administers fleet maintenance, assists in troubleshooting complex problems with equipment. Communicates availability of vehicles for service with dispatch, maintenance manager and/or other operations personnel.
Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues and resolution to ensure all work is properly completed in accordance with Company\'s safety and compliance procedures and federal and state regulations.
Provides direction to all Technician levels, and ensures that all repair and maintenance is performed in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
Works closely with General Manager/Location Manager and or Maintenance Manger providing status of maintenance and budget requirements. Reviews repair orders.

Minimum Education or Certifications Required

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)

Minimum Experience or Skills Required

Advanced mechanical aptitude and 3+ years of automotive or diesel repair experience required

Major Responsibilities

Oversee repair diagnostics on more complex matters and provide coaching, where necessary; may be required to road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs. Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on vehicles and equipment, on site and on the road, including: engine chassis repair and maintenance; knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems to maintain and repair vehicles in a timely and safe manner; knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to effectively diagnose and repair complex heating and cooling systems in vehicles in a timely and safe manner.

Minimum Education or Certifications Required

About the Role

The Parts Clerk / Parts Room Coordinator is responsible for the receipt, verification, labeling, storage, documentation, and security of all parts and supplies in the Parts Room. This role supports the maintenance team by ensuring parts are available, organized, properly tracked, and accurately recorded.

This position plays an important role in keeping shop operations running efficiently and helping reduce vehicle downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Receive, verify, label, and stock incoming parts and supplies
Maintain accurate parts inventory records and documentation
Conduct price and quality surveys to support purchasing decisions
Provide counter service to maintenance and operations team members
Order special, non-stock parts for repair orders as needed
Monitor reorder levels and replenish stock appropriately
Manage cores, warranty parts, and parts returns
Enter required information into computer systems accurately and timely
Operate repair order and parts recordkeeping systems in accordance with corporate and customer requirements
Record sales, repair orders, and parts transactions using proper procedures
Ensure repair order information is accurate and complete
Maintain files and other related records
Provide reports as needed
Maintain phone communications with vendors, internal teams, and shop personnel
Clean and organize shelves, bins, racks, and the overall parts facility

Parts Clerk / Parts Room Coordinator

About the Role

This position plays an important role in keeping shop operations running efficiently and helping reduce vehicle downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Receive, verify, label, and stock incoming parts and supplies
Maintain accurate parts inventory records and documentation
Conduct price and quality surveys to support purchasing decisions
Provide counter service to maintenance and operations team members
Order special, non-stock parts for repair orders as needed
Monitor reorder levels and replenish stock appropriately
Manage cores, warranty parts, and parts returns
Enter required information into computer systems accurately and timely
Operate repair order and parts recordkeeping systems in accordance with corporate and customer requirements
Record sales, repair orders, and parts transactions using proper procedures
Ensure repair order information is accurate and complete
Maintain files and other related records
Provide reports as needed
Maintain phone communications with vendors, internal teams, and shop personnel
Clean and organize shelves, bins, racks, and the overall parts facility
Maintain a clean, orderly, and secure parts room

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

About the Diesel Technician Position

As a Diesel Technician III with First Student, you will serve as an advanced member of the maintenance team, performing complex diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections on school buses, vans, and other fleet vehicles.

You will work independently on advanced mechanical and electrical issues, support road-call and emergency repair needs, and help guide less-experienced technicians. Valid driver\'s license required.

Service Employee

Pay: $20.00 per hour

At First Student, our Service Employees play an important role in keeping our fleet safe, fueled, and ready for service. This position supports the Maintenance Department by fueling buses, checking fluid levels, maintaining accurate fuel records, coordinating vehicle movement within the yard, and performing light building and grounds maintenance.

Responsibilities

Open the lot and inspect bus parking areas to ensure vehicles can be dispatched safely and on time
Reposition buses that may block or restrict traffic within the yard
Fuel school buses, activity buses, and commercial vehicles
Check and refill oil, antifreeze, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid
Inspect belts and report any vehicle maintenance concerns
Maintain accurate fuel stick and meter readings
Complete fuel receiving, fuel variance, month-end closing, and meter calibration reports
Notify the Location Manager or designee when fuel deliveries are needed
Ensure proper readings and procedures are completed before and after fuel deliveries
Perform light interior and exterior maintenance on buses
Assist with general building and grounds maintenance
Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred
Basic knowledge of bus or vehicle maintenance
Ability and willingness to learn additional maintenance skills
Ability to safely operate required tools and equipment
Ability to work independently and follow established safety procedures

This position is subject to DOT drug testing and physical requirements. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
