Now Hiring: Shop Manager (Maintenance Manager) - Charlton, MA
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Salary: $84,000 annually
First Student is looking for a strong, hands-on Shop Manager to lead maintenance operations at our Charlton, MA location, supporting routes in Dudley, Charlton, and Uxbridge. What You'll Be Doing
Lead all day-to-day maintenance operations for the location
Supervise, coach, and develop a team of technicians
Ensure the fleet is safe, compliant, and road-ready every day
Coordinate closely with dispatch and operations to keep service running smoothly
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and support technicians as needed
Review repair orders, manage parts and vendor relationships
Monitor maintenance performance, costs, and efficiency
Drive improvements that reduce downtime and operating expenses
Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and company safety standards
Step in and perform hands-on mechanical work when needed
What We're Looking For
5+ years of diesel/heavy-duty mechanical experience, including leadership
Strong background working on buses or heavy-duty vehicles
Experience leading teams, managing performance, and developing employees
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make real-time decisions
Strong communication and organizational skills
Comfortable using maintenance systems and basic computer programs
CDL with appropriate endorsements (or willingness to obtain)
High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred)
Work Environment
Hands-on shop environment with real operational impact
Physical work required, including lifting, bending, and working under vehicles
Exposure to typical shop conditions (dust, grease, noise)
