Now Hiring: Paratransit Fleet Technician

Pay: $32.00/hour

First Student is hiring a Fleet Technician to support our paratransit fleet. This is a hands-on maintenance role working with buses and vans that provide essential transportation service to the community.

About the Position

As a Fleet Technician, you'll perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs to help keep our vehicles safe, reliable, and ready for service. You'll work under the direction of experienced maintenance leadership while developing your technical skills and gaining experience working on a large transportation fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and safety inspections on buses, vans, and other fleet vehicles

  • Complete basic mechanical repairs and replace worn or damaged components

  • Inspect brakes, tires, fluids, electrical systems, and other vehicle systems

  • Diagnose basic mechanical issues and communicate additional repair needs

  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records

  • Assist with road calls and vehicle breakdowns when needed

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and work area

  • Follow First Student, DOT, and all applicable safety and maintenance requirements

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of automotive, diesel, fleet, or related mechanical experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Valid driver's license

  • Class B CDL with passenger endorsement preferred; ability to obtain required licensing within approximately 3 months of hire

  • Ability and willingness to participate in First Student's ASE certification program

  • Expected to begin ASE participation within the first year and obtain at least one ASE certification within 24 months

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn

  • Ability to safely use standard hand and shop tools

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work around vehicles for extended periods

  • Comfortable working in a maintenance shop and outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to safely operate vehicles and maintenance equipment as required

This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to applicable DOT and company drug and alcohol testing requirements.
