Job Description SummaryThe Senior Instructional Designer leads high‑impact, cross‑functional learning initiatives and serves as a trusted learning consultant to business leaders. This role focuses on designing programs and learning strategies, not just individual courses, and plays a key role in shaping enterprise learning direction.

Major Responsibilities

Enterprise Learning Design

  • Lead complex, cross‑functional learning initiatives across various functional areas.
  • Design scalable programs and learning journeys aligned to organizational priorities.
  • Recommend learning strategies beyond training (process, performance support, enablement).

Content Development & Support

  • Design and build blended learning solutions including eLearning, ILT/VILT materials, and job aids.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to translate complex content into learner‑centered experiences.
  • Apply evaluation strategies aligned to business needs.
  • Applies inclusive, legally compliant language standards when developing training.

Collaboration & Learning Operations

  • Partner with senior SMEs and leaders to diagnose performance needs.
  • Influence scope, approach, and priorities based on learning expertise.
  • Manage relationships with multiple stakeholders across initiatives.

Advanced Production & Quality

  • Serve as a production‑capable designer for complex or high‑visibility solutions.
  • Ensure alignment to enterprise design standards and measurement practices.

Organizational Agility

  • Operate effectively in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Manage multiple concurrent priorities with shifting timelines.
  • Flex into additional enterprise learning initiatives as business needs evolve.
  • A proven self‑starter trusted to deliver results independently in a remote, low‑oversight setting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support enterprise learning initiatives, program evolution, and strategic learning priorities as business needs change.


Minimum Education or Certifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning & Development, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in instructional design, training, or related roles.
  • Advanced proficiency with enterprise authoring and media tools.
  • Strong learning consultation and stakeholder management skills.


Minimum Experience or Skills Required

  • Proven and demonstrable working experience in designing, delivering and measuring adult learning modules built to achieve specific learning objectives.
  • Experience managing the implementation of complex projects (though need not possess formal project management credentials, e.g. PMP certification)
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft® software applications, including PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of Skillport, and/or other Learning Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in virtual learning delivery platforms, such as Zoom.
  • Ability to work within a team structure, collaborating closely with colleagues and operating interdependently to achieve assigned tasks.
  • Exceptional communication skills - both written ad oral
  • Ability to prioritize work, handle multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of accuracy, and attention to detail and organization
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Experience with transportation industry is a plus.
  • Coaching certification a plus.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%
